Things Happening In the Classroom
January 18, 2015
Welcome back! I hope you've all enjoyed your Winter Break, and are refreshed and ready to learn once more. We are now finishing up our Rock and Mineral Unit with the Sedimentary and Metamorphic Unit on Monday, January 21st. Next, we will move on the Internal Processes.

In the past few weeks, students focused on Sedimentary Rocks and Sedimentary Rock features. Students practiced Sedimentary Rock classification and identification, conducted labs to test settling rates of sediments, and how evaporites are formed, and studies the environments in which Sedimentary Rocks are most often formed.
We have planned a field trip to the Britannia Mine Museum on Tuesday, December 8th. Please have Parent Permission Forms returned ASAP.
Update: General lesson topic reviews will now be posted on the Maplewood Science Weebly website. Google Classroom will continue to be used for opening and handing in assignments.

The first two weeks have served as an introduction to Geology as a science and a course at Maplewood High. Students have familiarized themselves with Google Classroom, and set up ongoing course assignments, such as their Visual Dictionaries and Written Responses. They have been introduced the different careers associated with the Earth Sciences, as well as discussed how the Earth was formed, relative to to The Big Bang and Nebular Theories.
September 23 - 25 was spent hiking, canoeing and team building at the various activities of Outdoor School.
