Science 8
In Science 8, students begin to get accustomed to the laboratory, and the safety skills, procedures and responsibilities associated with it. Through out the various units, students focus on developing scientific process skills such as observing, comparing, classifying, inferring, evaluating, analyzing, predicting and communicating.
The life science portion of this year focuses on a basic understanding of the characteristics, needs, and interdependence of cells, tissues, organs, and organ systems.
In the physical sciences, students discover a basic understanding of forces and the properties of waves, light, and fluids, as well as how these factors influence the human eye and our ability to see.
In the earth and space sciences, students explore the properties of water and its effect on the biosphere and surface of the Earth.
