Geology 12
Geology 12 is a senior science course that explores the Earth's composition, structure, processes, and history; its atmosphere, fresh water, and oceans; and its environment in space. It is a wonderful integration of other scientific fields and incorporates the use of skills and content learned in previous years.
This course is an exciting option for our students as it lends itself to an abundance of hands-on learning experiences, and its content demonstrates easy relatability, as we explore the world we live on. Students continue to foster their scientific processes skills, such as inductive and deductive reasoning, critical thinking and problem solving, while working on particular skill sets, such as presentations or organization skills, self-chosen as preparation for graduation.
Students are encouraged to look at geology from both a personal and worldly perspective, and analyze the social implications of the topics covered. Topics include an exploration of the major cycles that affect every aspect of life including weather, climate, air movement, tectonics, volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, rocks, minerals, geological history, the earth’s environment, sustainability and energy resources.
